William S Mitchell, aged 84, resident of Raleigh NC passed away on February 8, at his home in Brighton Gardens, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on April 19, 1941 in Philadelphia, Bill was the 3rd of 7 children born to Margaret and John Anthony Mitchell. He grew up on Camac Street in Philly, attended La Salle High School and played tuba in the band. After graduating from La Salle College, he joined the US Navy.
Bill will be remembered for his love of family, his faith, and his warm personality. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and was Charter Grand Knight of the Garner chapter. He enjoyed the church choir, and was a greeter, lector, and familiar face at St. Mary's for much of his adult life.
Bill married Catherine Dolan Mitchell in 1966, and had four children, and remained married until her death in 2010. He is survived by his children; Eileen and husband Don Rabil; Julie and her husband Mike Vorobiov, Cathy and her husband Mike Egan, and Billy and his wife Wendy Mitchell. Bill was incredibly proud of his ten grandchildren, Cecelia Hawes (Graham), Maggie, Drew (Rachel), and Ryan Rabil, Nick and Steve Vorobiov, Liam and Colin Egan, Noelle and Violet Mitchell.
Also surviving are his dear siblings Tony (Jackie) Mitchell, Tom (JoAnne) Mitchell, Rick (Connie) Mitchell and Monica (Gary) Cummins who he remained close to his entire life. He was predeceased by a sister Maureen (John) Kelly and a brother Mark Mitchell.
Bill remarried Diane Woerner in Nov 2018, and they remained married until her death in Sept 2022.
The family wishes to thank the village of people that helped care for and support Bill in his last years including the loving staff at Brighton Gardens that provided him with compassionate care and friendship; Toni and Kelvin Walker at RTP Errand and Delivery who lovingly transported Bill to dialysis; the St. Mary's Knights of Columbus Council for their unwavering support; Ken Kukorowski for his faithfulness and loyalty; and Transitions LifeCare.
A funeral mass will be held for Bill on April 17 at St. Mary's in Garner at 10:00 AM ,followed by burial at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Bill wanted any donations made to the Knights of Columbus council 11266, 1008 Vandora Springs Road., Garner NC 27529.
