Walton "Oliver" Banks

RALEIGH - Walton "Oliver" Banks, 95, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026. He was born June 22, 1931, in Garner, North Carolina, to the late Paul Kennon Banks and Portia Alderman Banks.

Mr. Banks proudly served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge. He later graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree and was a lifelong Tar Heel. After graduation, Mr. Banks worked as a photographer that took him to Europe three times.

Mr. Banks worked in the real estate industry for most of his life. He was a senior vice president at Stockton, White and Company. Mr. Banks also served as CEO of Caroline Management Company and established Banks Realty Company where he focused on the sale of apartment complexes, hotels, and land. A man of enduring faith, he was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Banks was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy B. Stump, and his brothers, P.K. Banks and Braxton Banks. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Eames Banks; his sister, Portia Banks Dawson of Winston-Salem; many nieces and nephews; and his honorary grandchildren from the David Rhoades family of Raleigh, Sarah Ann and Harrison.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Banks will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, 112 S. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
