Walter Fletcher Kelly, Jr.

Walter F. Kelly, Jr., of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born in Raleigh in 1947 and was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Kelly.

Walter was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Gail Kelly, who also preceded him in death, and a loving father to his children, Dana Beabout, wife of Dean Beabout, and Scott Kelly, all of Clayton. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, Michael Beabout (Alyssa), Seth Beabout, and Emma Beabout, and his precious great-grandchild, Ellie Beabout. Family was one of God's greatest blessings in Walter's life, and he cherished every moment spent with those he loved.

He is also survived by his dear friend, Pat Sellers. The family is deeply grateful for the kindness, companionship, and care she showed Walter during his later years. Her presence meant more to him than words can express.

Walter was known for his steady nature, gentle spirit, and the quiet ways he showed love and care for others. He lived life thoughtfully and with genuine curiosity. Earlier in life, he enjoyed scuba diving, reflecting his adventurous side and love of exploration. In more recent years, he found happiness in staying active, playing pickleball several times a week, and taking pride in caring for his health.

Walter graduated from North Carolina State University and devoted his professional life to teaching and mentoring young adults. He spent his career at Wake Technical Community College and North Carolina State University, where he retired after many years of service. Teaching was more than a profession to him-it was a calling, and he took great pride in the students whose lives he helped shape.

Walter had a special fondness for beagles and a lifelong love of animals. He leaves behind Taryn, who will miss his constant companionship and affection.

Above all else, Walter will be remembered for his strength, warmth, and the love he gave so freely. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and will forever be grateful for the memories, lessons, and quiet moments they shared. His love will continue to guide them and live on in each of their lives.

We will celebrate a life well lived and find comfort in knowing Walter has been reunited with Jesus and with those he loved who went before him. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place February 22, 2026, at First Baptist of Garner, 601 St Mary's Street, Garner, NC. Visitation at 1:30pm and service at 2:30pm.
