Virginia Larsen Burch

Angier- Virginia Larsen Burch, 86, passed away at Calyx Living in Fuquay-Varina, NC, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Born in Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late James "Shorty" Larsen and Margaret Watson Larsen.

Virginia was a 1956 graduate of Angier High School, where she served as Valedictorian. Virginia was involved in many extracurricular activities during her time as a student there. After completing her education, she held different titles throughout her career. Virginia was a secretary for CP&L Co., part-time bookkeeper for a Tobacco Company, worked for the Angier Chamber of Commerce, Reading Aide at Angier High School, and she was a substitute teacher at Angier High School as well as North Harnett Elementary School. This is when she found her calling to be a teacher. She returned to college to pursue a degree in teaching at Campbell College. During her time at Campbell, she was recognized for her achievements and was awarded several scholarships. Virginia was Salutatorian and graduated with her master's degree in education all while raising three kids at home. She taught school for over 20 years at Coats Elementary School and Angier Elementary School.

Throughout her life, Virginia was involved in her community and was a long-time member of Angier Baptist Church. There she served as a Youth Sunday School Teacher. She was the founder of the Crepe Myrtle Festival over 50 years ago, which is still celebrated to this day. Virginia traveled to many places in the state and out-of-state on educational tours. She even helped establish an account in the school cafeteria in memory of her mother-in-law, Hima Burch. She donated money to the account to help students that may have needed assistance paying for lunch at Angier Elementary School. Virginia enjoyed hobbies such as art, decoupage, shopping, working in the yard with her flowers, and spending time with her family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 1st at Angier Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 395 E. Depot St. Angier, NC 27501. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside service from 2:00-2:45 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 300 E. McIver St. Angier, NC 27501.

Virginia is survived by her son, Steven Burch (Julia) of Benson; daughters, Susan Barnes (Jeff) of Fuquay-Varina, Debbie Sugg (Mickey) of Wilmington; grandchildren, Kyle Burch of Fuquay-Varina, Nicholas Burch of Benson, Ashleigh Daniel (Justin) of Fuquay-Varina, Meaghan Jones (Travis) of Raleigh, Jessica Wilson (Trey) of Elizabethton, TN, Patrick Sugg of Charlotte, Ashley Quaife (Colby) of Odessa, FL, Reid Barnes of Greenville, Lauren Barnes, Jamie Criswell (William) of Lillington, Candace Herrell (Michael) of Willow Springs; great-grandchildren, Rilyn Daniel, Huck Daniel, Locke Daniel, Waylon Jones, Everleigh Jones, Connie Elizabeth Wilson, Wyatt Quaife, Landon Quaife, Cimmy Quaife, Bentley Quaife, Savannah Criswell, Kate Criswell, Charlotte Criswell, and Cade Herrell.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Connie Mack Burch; sisters, Margaret Ruth Larsen Hellein, Frances Elizabeth Larsen Guy, and Anna Faye Larsen Myrick; brothers, Jimmy James Cline Larsen, Jr. and Harold Lori Lambert.
