Thomas Joe Malicoat

Thomas Joe Malicoat, 72 of Raleigh, North Carolina, a proud Marine, devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and a man of deep principle, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Tom lived a life defined by service, quiet strength, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

His time in the Marine Corps further defined his sense of character of integrity, courage, and loyalty that he carried into every part of his life. He believed in doing what was right, even when it was hard, and he taught those around him to stand tall and take responsibility.

At home Tom was a steady presence — the one family members turned to for practical help, honest advice, and a warm laugh. His kindness was real and generous, and sometimes it came as tough love. He pushed his children and grandchildren to be their best, offering guidance that could be firm but always rooted in care. Those who knew him understood that his strictest lessons were also his deepest expressions of love.

Friends remember Tom for his generosity, his calm wisdom, and the way he made people feel seen. He had a gift for making ordinary days feel important and for leaving a lasting impression of kindness and high standards wherever he went. Whether sharing a song in the Music Room or building things with his hands Tom was eager to share his artistic spirit with everyone, if you knew Tom, you have something he made. Whether sharing stories of his time in uniform or offering quiet support during hard times, Tom lived with humility and grace.

Tom is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Lynn Malicoat.

Tom is survived by his loving spouse of 52 years, Sandra Malicoat; his children, Jack Malicoat, Velana (Mark) Wood, Kaylah (Jesse) Mills; his grandchildren, Dakota Mills, Payton Malicoat, Holly Wood, Aubree Mills, Goldie Wood and a wide circle of family and friends who will miss him deeply. His legacy is one of service, love, and the countless small acts of goodness and discipline that shaped his family’s lives forever.
