Susan Swann Meyers died on January 17, 2026. She was born January 23, 1943, to Martha and Sheldon Swann, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She earned her Master's degree in Sociology at Iowa State University, where she also met her future husband, Thomas Paul Meyers. They were married in Ames, Iowa, in May 1966.
Susan is survived by her sisters, Stephanie English (Mark Kleinfelter) and Penny Rutledge (Brett); her sister-in-law, Carole Keys Swann; her nieces, Sadonna Swann and Shannon Swann; and great nephew, Tarik Abdou. She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; her brother, Sheldon Brewster Swann Jr.; and her nephew, Stephen Edward English.
Susan was a Professor Emeritus in the Extension Department, College of Human Ecology, at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul. She loved her work, which touched countless people across Minnesota and beyond. She was also active in national associations of Family Relations professionals. In her free time, Sue was an avid fisherman and guitar player. As a breast cancer survivor, she volunteered with Reach to Recovery, offering one-on-one support to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.
Since March of 2024, Sue has been cared for by the memory care staff of Cadence at Garner. She entertained staff and residents alike with her sense of humor and her agreeable "okie dokie". Sue's family is grateful to staff of Cadence and Amedisys Hospice for their compassion and care in Sue's final days.
An informal visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, 3-5 pm, at Bryan Lee Funeral Home in Garner. To honor Susan's legacy of charitable giving, the family requests donations in lieu of flowers, to a charity of your choice or the Alzheimer's Association.
