Stephen Turner Updegrave, 27 of Raleigh died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident March 21st, 2026.
His memorial service will be held Saturday March 28th, at 2 PM at McCuller's Community Baptist Church located at 133 Rand Road, Raleigh, NC 27603. If you are unable to attend the service will be available here.
He was born and raised in Raleigh, graduated from Athens Drive High School and pursued a career in auto repair and maintenance. He began as a service technician and enjoyed the work and the challenge of learning. Eventually he found his skills with customers as a calm, friendly and caring auto repair service writer were his niche. He was a service manager at the time of his death.
His true calling was as a parent. He always loved children. He was a great father to his daughter Amelia.
He was known for his beautiful, dimpled smile, good wit, and great hugs.
He is survived by his daughter, Amelia Rose Updegrave and partner, Norah Mitchell of the home, His parents Ken and Ginger Updegrave of Wilson, his brother Erik Updegrave (Amaris) of Raleigh, his grandparents Ken and Barbara Updegrave of Chapel Hill, Gary and Connie Burton of Dwight Kansas, Uncles, Stuart Updegrave of Barcelona and Terry Burton (LuAnn) of Melbourne Florida, cousins Nathan, Nick and Andrew. He is also survived by his co-parent and mother of Amelia, Taylor Coulier and her family, especially his nephew Devyn and niece/God-daughter Aliyah. Additionally left to celebrate his life and miss him are his church family at McCullers Community Baptist Church in particular, his good friend and mentor Pastor Matthew Reese.
Stephen Turner's daughter, Amelia, is a 3-year-old special needs child, and there has been an account opened at NC State Employees Credit Union to assist with her therapy, services, and any assistance devices/technology that she might need.
