Stephen Ralph Griffey, 74, was born on June 20, 1951, outside the Village of Joppa, IL. in Massac County.

Steve passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in Raleigh, NC, after a long struggle with liver disease. We will miss him but are grateful for the time we had with him on this earth and look forward to seeing him again on the other side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Iona Griffey; an infant brother at birth, his brother, Thomas; his half-sisters, Dorothy and Alice and his half-brother, James; his mother-in-law, Myrtle McGee; his father-in-law, Roy McGee; his brothers-in-law, Howard Geisler, Donnie Shreves, Larry McGee and Roy McGee; his sisters-in-law, Brenda (Childers) Griffey and Susanne (Rixie-Howell) Griffey; his great nephew Jacob Griffey.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kay McGee Griffey; his sons, Steve and Kevin Griffey; his daughter-in-law, Amy Yeargan Griffey; his grandchildren, Sienna, Asher and Willow; his brothers, Larry Griffey and David Griffey; his sisters, Eleanor Geisler, Ruth Shreves, Pam Griffey; his sisters-in-law; Sharon Williams, Barbara Vaughn; his many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.

He was a longtime resident of West Chicago, IL and worked for Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent and Lucent Alcatel for 45 years.

A private Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 12-4 pm at Riverside Receptions, 35 River Lane, Genev, IL 60134. Food will be served and casual dress is preferred.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, The American Cancer Society or The American Humane Society.
