Sarah Ogburn Blalock

Sarah Ogburn Blalock, age 90, passed from this life on the morning of June 10, 2026. She was born January 5, 1936 to the late Robert Glenn Ogburn and Lela Robbins Ogburn at home in the Ogburn homeplace. She was predeceased by her husband and childhood sweetheart, Ben Richard Blalock, Sr., they were happily married for over 64 years and by her daughter-in-law Mary Holly Blalock.

Sarah attended and graduated from Cleveland High School in three years and was Co-Valedictorian. She chose to raise their three sons until the youngest started school before working outside the home. The majority of her working career was with the State and Wake County government, where she completed 30 years of service before her retirement.

Sarah became a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church at an early age, having been brought there as an infant. She began playing the piano for Sunday School at age 9 and played for her first wedding at age 11. She was organist, choir member, and choir director for more than 60 years. She also served as Elder, President of the Women of the Church, Sunday school teacher and Bible Leader during her years of service. She was selected as Outstanding Older Adult in Ministries of the Presbytery of New Hope. Sarah was a doting Mother, Grandmother and G.G. and served her Lord graciously.

Sarah is survived by her sons and their wives: Ben R. (Ricky) Blalock, Jr. and wife, Lynne, Michael Blalock, Tony Blalock and wife, Jayme.

Grandchildren: Tara Johnson (Jared), Spencer Blalock (Brittany), Kristen Callahan (Devin), and Charles Blalock.

Great Grandchildren: Gabrielle Lela Johnson, Devin Rian Callahan, Jr. and Ellie James Callahan.

And adopted daughter, Debra Sutton.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 13 at Mt Pleasant Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Visitation will be held at Bryan Lee Funeral Home in Garner, Friday June 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Burial will be private at a later date.

The family would like to thank the Nursing and Care Team at UNC Rex, Fourth Floor for their excellent care of "Ms. Sarah" over the past few weeks, as well as the Nurses, Assistants and Staff of the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, and especially her Church Family and many cousins.
