Sandra Stehley Lloyd, 78, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born September 29, 1947 in Wilson, NC, she was the daughter of Donald Woodrow and Mary Walston Stehley.
Sandra lived a life defined by love, faith, perseverance, and selfless devotion to others. For sixty years, she shared a remarkable marriage with her beloved husband, Larry, who often said it was genuinely a privilege to be married to her. Together, they built not only a loving family, but a lifetime of treasured memories. Professionally, Sandra worked as an administrator in the medical field, and her determination was evident when she returned to college as an adult and proudly earned her degree.
To know Sandra was to experience her warmth, kindness, and unmistakable sense of humor. She had a gift for making others feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her infectious laughter and playful spirit could brighten any room, and many considered her their honorary mother because she cared for others as if they were her own children. Sandra consistently placed the needs of others before her own, a trait she carried throughout her life. Even after receiving a cancer diagnosis, she spent her final weeks lovingly preparing her family for life without her, ensuring everything was in order. Her faith remained steadfast, and she found comfort and peace in knowing she would soon be going home to Jesus.
Sandra had a natural talent for painting, drawing, and creating beautiful things and found great joy sharing that beauty with others. Christmas held a special place in her heart, and each year she filled her home with the magic of Christmas, often leaving decorations up long after the season had passed because they brought her so much happiness. Sandra was also an enthusiastic sports fan who could hold her own with any sports commentator. Whether it was golf, tennis, hockey, basketball, or baseball, she followed teams and players closely and loved learning their stories and celebrating their successes.
Above all, Sandra's enduring legacy is the love she poured into others. She was a light in every room she entered, and her kindness, laughter, and generous spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
“God gave me the gift of laughter, an unlimited ability to love, and a glass half full, and I want to leave that to all of you.”
— Sandra, Mom, Nana
Sandra is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Larry Lloyd, Sr.; daughter, Kim Garvin and husband Shawn; son, Larry Lloyd, Jr.; and granddaughter, Samantha McLean; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and close friends.
