Angier- Sammy R. McLean, 77, passed away on Sunday at Lawndale Manor in Garner. A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late Otha McLean and Inez Tudor McLean.
Sammy was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving on active duty during the Vietnam War. Following his time in the military, his service to others didn't stop there, Sammy worked for most of his career and retired from the Harnett County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff. In addition, he was also a volunteer fireman with the Angier and Black River Fire Department for many years.
Sammy is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Lee Yates McLean; daughter, Jennifer McLean Keen and husband, Eric of Angier; granddaughter, Eleanor Marie Keen of Angier.
In addition to his parents, Sammy was preceded in death by his brothers, Freddie McLean and Marty McLean.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 10th in the sanctuary of Angier Baptist Church, 155 S. Hickory St. Angier, NC 27501. The burial will follow the service at Kennebec Baptist Church Cemetery, Angier. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 pm prior to the service at the church as well as other times at the home.
