Victor Luis “Benny” Bonilla

Victor Luis Bonilla, 81, affectionately known to most as “Benny”, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience and cherished memories. He was born in Jayuya, Puerto Rico on September 2, 1943, and was the eldest son of the late Rosendo Bonilla, and Angela Rivera.

Throughout his life Benny exemplified determination, versatility and resourcefulness, embracing various career paths that showcased his “jack of all trades” spirit. A simple man at heart, Benny found joy in life’s little treasures. His deep connection to nature and wildlife brought him peace and inspiration, he was an avid fisherman and would find his way to the open sea whenever he had the opportunity. He was happiest with a fishing rod in hand, rocking along with the waves.

Benny was a devoted partner, loving father, and proud grandfather whose kindness, strength, and selflessness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed for the wisdom and love he shared with his family and friends.

While Benny mourned the loss of his son Victor and siblings Norberto and Hilda, he carried their memories with love and strength throughout his life. Benny is survived by his loving partner of 38 years, Elsie Hernandez; sons, David, Kevin, and John-Paul; daughters, Alma, Sandra, and Melissa; brothers, Noe and Anibal; and sisters, Olga, Cuca, and Norma.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529.
