Silver Spring, MD- Roger Dale Stephenson, 61, died unexpectedly from complications of thyroid cancer on August 12, 2012 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD, surrounded by family and friends. Born September 21, 1950, Dale was a native of Johnston County, NC and the son of Barbara J. Byrd and Masecelle Stephenson. He attended Cleveland High School where he graduated in 1968. He completed a bachelors degree in political science in 1972 from Appalachian State University and a masters degree in public administration from the University of Maryland in 1974. Dale retired from the University of Maryland system after a 33 year career. He was most recently employed as Director of Finance and Personnel at The George Washington Universitys Elliott School of International Affairs in Washington, DC. Dale was also an accomplished model, appearing in many print advertisements and fashion shows, as well as in several films as a movie extra. A memorial service will be held at Aversboro Road Baptist Church in Garner, NC on August 26, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Harvey Whaley and Reverend Tim Bunn officiating. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, Bryan Stephenson ; sister, Dawn Pearce and husband, Brian, all of Raleigh, NC; nephew and niece, Matthew and Madelyn; special friends, Jeffrey Hazel, Karla Koles, Jan Andrews, Suzi Nonn, Steve Houser, and many other loving friends and family members.
