CJ Cummings Jr.

Robert Clay Cummings, Jr. of Johnston County, better known as CJ, was unexpectedly called home to the Lord on December 25, 2025.

Born on November 30, 1992, CJ will be remembered most for the way he made people feel. He had a quick wit, a sharp mind, and an undeniable presence that could lighten a room and put others at ease. He had a gift for connection and a heart that cared deeply for those he loved.

CJ is survived by his daughter, Phoebe Cummings; his mother, Teresa Bagwell Cummings and step-father Chuck Rowe; his father, Clay Cummings and wife Patricia; brother, Ethan Tart and wife Allison, along with their son Nathan; sister, Elizabeth Cowherd and husband Sam, along with their children Roxanne and Tex; his aunts and uncles, Tina and Dennis Tart, Rocky and Becky Bagwell; grandparents, Gerald and Catherine Bagwell; cousins McKenzie and Hayley; and his fiancée, Sara.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Don and Sue Cummings.

CJ shared a close bond with his family and was deeply loved. He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and the way he showed up for the people in his life in ways both big and small.

A period of public visitation will take place on Sunday, January 4th, 2025 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529 with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00 PM.
