Rita M. Lapierre passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at Frederick Health Hospital, Frederick, Maryland, with her family by her side. She was just shy of her 98th birthday.
Rita was born in Lincoln, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of James and Mary Carr and youngest of seven children.
Rita married Raymond Lapierre in 1950. In 1959, they relocated to New York where they lived until 2011. They then moved to Raleigh, North Carolina along with their daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bob Werner. Karen and Bob helped care for them until Raymond's passing in 2018, then continued to care for Rita until Karen's passing in 2023. After that, Rita moved to Walkersville, Maryland residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Jim. In 2024, she moved to Country Meadows Assisted Living in Frederick, Maryland.
Rita retired from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles in 1996. She loved embroidery, reading mystery novels, TV game shows and the New York Mets. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rita is predeceased by her parents, siblings, her husband, Raymond, and daughter, Karen.
She is survived by daughter, Sheila Beard and husband, James, and son-in-law, Robert Werner. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kimberly Urban and husband, Brian; Jeffrey Beard and wife Stacy Walls; Brian Beard and wife, Amanda; Robert Werner. Great-grandchildren are Claire Urban, Zachary Urban, Brant Beard, and Grace Beard. Also surviving is niece, Joan Scullin.
We are grateful for the loving care she received from the staff at County Meadows in the final two years.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 11:00am at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603. The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior at the funeral home.
