Richard Earl Young

Richard Young was born on May 23rd, 1954, to his parents, Flora Young and Willie H Young Jr. He died May 2nd, 2026, at his home where he was under hospice care for a year and eight months. His wife would like to thank them for their weekly visits checking on him.

Richard Young (age 71) died peacefully in his sleep. He took a breath and then no more and he left his body to be in heaven with his mother and his beloved grandaddy. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Christina (Chris) Young. His nephew, John Willis Jr (Johnny), his wife, Kelley Willis and their daughter, Chloe Willis.

Richard worked as an accountant for the North Carolina Department of Revenue dealing with local municipalities. Then he left to finish his education, he graduated from Wake Technical Institute with an Associate degree. He returned to state government in the Department of Health and Human Services as an auditor. While he was there, he met associates who liked smooth modern Jazz. He became a listener and bought quite a few CDs of music. We even went with a couple to Durham to a Boney James concert.

Before his health issues, he enjoyed fishing, mowing grass with his John Deere tractor, going up to the mountains in Boone, NC. He enjoyed taking pictures in the mountains and Richard and Chris would hike to waterfalls and travel up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway taking pictures with his 35mm camera. He also enjoyed fishing for mountain trout at the Grandfather Mountain trout ponds. We would bring trout back home in our ice chest to enjoy trout dinners.

I have many memories with him, but he will be missed.

His visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:00 to 10:45 am in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home with burial to follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
