Rick was an accomplished welder and worked as a welder/pipefitter for Newcomb and Company for many years and retired in 2022 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he worked in the Chilled Water Systems Division.
Upon retirement, Rick was determined not to "Let the old man in" and remained active by playing golf, gardening and home improvements. Most of his energy was spent daily chasing after his grandson Jaxon, to whom Rick was the "Best Friend" of and shared a very close and special relationship with. Even after receiving a devastating cancer diagnosis in December of 2023, his primary concern was surviving cancer to see Jaxon grow up and take care of his wife and family.
