Phyllis Batton Mangum

Phyllis Batton Mangum, 78, passed away December 31, 2022. A native of Wake County, Phyllis was born February 21, 1944, to the late Robert Earl and Elva Austin Batton. Phyllis was a lifelong resident of the Raleigh area and was a lifelong member of Caraleigh Baptist Church. She worked for more than 24 years with Corning Glass Company, before retiring and spending 15 years with the State of NC, Elevator Division.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 8, 2023, at 2PM, in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel, Garner. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:45PM at the funeral home.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 21 years, John Roy Mangum; daughter, Leah Mangum Hippert and husband, Jason; son-in-law, Chad Conkling and wife, Stephanie; grandchildren, Hannah Conkling Levan, Natalie Marie Hippert; Trevor Dean Hippert, Tucker James Conkling, and Harper Gwen Conkling; brother, James “Jim” Batton and wife, Linda; nephews, Greg, Jay, and Jeff Batton; and a niece, Karen Batton.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Mangum Conkling and a brother, Earl Batton.
