With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Paul Lynn Sprouse, 71, of Asheville, NC, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Paul was born on March 7, 1955, in Asheville, NC, to Annie Laura Orders. He graduated from Asheville High School and North Carolina State University. He made a life in Raleigh, NC, and at the time of his death resided in Garner, NC.
Throughout his life, Paul was devoted to serving both his community and the church. As an active member of Hope Community Church - Garner Campus. Paul was a leader in the community as well, dedicating his time and energy in a wide variety of capacities – from working with the Boy Scouts of America, where he was an Eagle Scout, a longstanding volunteer with the Special Olympic of North Carolina, a lifetime donor of the American Red Cross platelet donation center in Durham, NC, to serving as a driver for Wheels 4 Hope. Paul spent his career as a Professional Engineer with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, within the Structures and Design Division and later the Bridge Maintenance Division. He continued to serve after his retirement as a consultant with Vaughan & Melton.
Paul’s humor, wit, and generosity were recognized by all that encountered him. He gave his knowledge, expertise, and time to all, working in service to build a better world for his family, his friends, and a large and diverse number of communities. Paul never saw a project too insignificant or too challenging. In his eyes, the coffee cup was not half-empty or half-full, always refillable. Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Laura, and his uncle Leonard. Paul is survived by his wife, Diane; children Matthew (Carry, of Durham, NC) and Emily (Grant, of Paris KY); and Aunt Lou (of Fort Worth, TX).
Family and friends are welcome for a service and visitation at Hope Community Church – Raleigh Campus, 821 Buck Jones Rd. Raleigh, NC, 27606 on Tuesday, April 7th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wheels 4 Hope online at www.wheels4hope.org, or by mailed check to Wheels 4 Hope, 411 East Durham Rd. Cary, NC 27511.
