Nora Kay Heflin

Nora Kay Heflin, 85, of Garner, NC, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026. She peacefully went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, with her daughter Claudia at her bedside holding her mother's hand, and one of her caring CNA's, Tina, holding her other hand. Born June 17, 1941 in Washington, DC., Kay was the daughter of the late Claude William Kidwell and Pauline Kenyon Kidwell. She grew up in Falls Church, VA and spent most of her working career as a medical assistant in Fairfax County, VA. She married William (Bill) Wendell Heflin and was his life mate for 47 years, as they later retired to Madison, VA in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Here, they spent the latter years of their marriage as active members of Open Door Baptist Church, the local Ruritan, and other places in the Madison community, until Bill predeceased Kay in 2016. After a short stay in Orange, VA, she then moved to Garner, North Carolina to be close to her family in 2018. Kay is survived by her daughter, Claudia H. Cholerton, and husband, Jimmy of Garner; and two grandchildren - Blake Mitchell Cholerton (Willow) of Cary, NC and Hope Marie Whitman (Caleb) of Gainesville, FL.

A local memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 22 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Garner. Visitation will take place after the service. A graveside service will be held in Madison, VA on Monday, November 9 at 10:00 am, where Kay will join her husband at Madison Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Bella Rose in Garner where the staff and medical community took great care of Kay for the remaining eight years of her life.
