Nelson Gary Boyette, age 75, passed away on December 14, 2025. He was born on May 23, 1950, in Kinston, North Carolina.
Gary spent his early childhood in Apex, North Carolina, and lived the remainder of his life in Cary, North Carolina, a community he loved deeply. He was a man of strong character, widely respected, and always willing to help others.
While attending Cary High School, Gary played drums in the school band and proudly played football for the Cary White Imps. After graduating, he dedicated himself to public service, becoming a full-time firefighter with the Cary City Fire Department and serving for many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Cary Rural Fire Department. He also proudly served six years in the Army National Guard alongside his brother, Doug.
Later in life, Gary became a successful businessman. He built and owned a convenience store in Morrisville before selling it and going on to own and operate car washes in Apex, Morrisville, and Clayton. Gary truly enjoyed working at his car washes, spending time with patrons, and having his son involved in the business.
Family was the center of Gary's life. He loved spending time with his many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Thanksgiving was the most recent family gathering, a time Gary cherished deeply, as he was especially happy to be surrounded by family and enjoying time together.
Twenty-six years ago, Gary met the love of his life, Susan Link, and together they shared a wonderful life. He loved Susan's children and grandchildren as his own.
Gary was a devoted father and is survived by his only child, Corey, whom he adored; his longtime partner, Susan Link; his brother, Doug Boyette (Pam); and his sister, Sandra Boyette Brown Toler (Doug).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Dorothy Boyette, of Apex, North Carolina.
Gary will be remembered for his generosity, work ethic, love of family, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him.
Gary will lie in state for friends to pay their respects on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home 1200 Benson Rd. Garner, NC 27529.
