Marie Coats Watson

Angier- Marie Coats Waston, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Oak Hill Assisted Living.

Born on December 16, 1930, Marie was the daughter of Jeptha and Minnie Coats. She was amazing and well respected, not only in business, but personally as well.

Marie provided insurance services for thirty plus years and was the owner of Watson Insurance Agency in Coats. She was a member of the First Citizens Board, Coats Chamber of Commerce and she was presented the M. O. Phillips Prestigious Award.

She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Watson Honeycutt and Teresa Watson Brooks (Buck); brother, Ronald J. Coats (Joy); grandson, Chad Cotten, great-grandchildren, Casey and Colton Cotton; her beloved cat, Coal; granpups, Mia Marita and Ellie Rose.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Malcom Watson; her sister, LaRue Hall; and grandson, Trent Russell Cotten.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Angier Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to give their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Oak Hill Assisted Living. This was Marie’s “home” for the past four years. There are no words to describe the excellent care and love she received. A special thanks to 3HC Hospice for their help and dedication to Marie.
