With the heaviest hearts, the family shares that Michael Anthony Zollo of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away peacefully at his home on February 10, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on December 14, 1946, in Hampden County, Massachusetts. Michael was a wonderful husband, a devoted and loving father, a proud Grampy to seven wonderful grandchildren, and a joyful great-Grampy to two great-grandchildren who brought him so much happiness.
In the late summer of 1989, along with his wife and daughters, Michael made Raleigh, North Carolina his forever home. He spent his final day exactly where he belonged — at home — surrounded by family and close friends, with his wife by his side, holding him until the very end.
Michael was a man of many talents and careers. He worked as a draftsman and pressman and later became an entrepreneur, proudly self-employed under ChipsAway for 20 years, working side by side with his wife. For 48 years, Michael and Denise shared a marriage rooted in love, partnership, and devotion to family, building a life together filled with laughter, hard work, and deep commitment.
Michael had a deep love for life, and his fondest memories were made with family and friends at Lake Gaston — affectionately known as “The Lake.” He spent many summer weekends searching for the perfect cove, hoping to find water “like glass” for a ride on his beloved yellow jet ski — always hoping for one last ride.
An artist by trade, Michael explored watercolors and oil painting, but his true passion was leather carving. His art work was stunning and impeccable, reflecting both his creativity and meticulous attention to detail.
Michael proudly served his country as an infantryman in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970 and was a 3-time Bronze Star recipient, an honor he carried with humility and pride.
Michael is survived by his wife of 48 years, Denise; his daughter Jessica Zollo of Raleigh; his daughter Keri Ann Zollo Lorig and son-in law Vincent Lorig of Fuquay-Varina; son in-law Anthony Torrian of Raleigh; and daughter Christina Stinson and son-in law Derek Stinson of Chicopee, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Alexus Ellis, Trinity Zollo, London Stinson, Aiden Lorig, Alanna Zollo Torrain, Penny Lorig, Kingston Watson, Michael Brooks Lorig, and Baby TJ, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
In addition Michael also leaves behind his three brothers: James Zollo (Roseann), Thomas Zollo, and Daniel Zollo (Mary), and a large extended family of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winnie and Carmen Zollo; his daughter Lori Zollo Torrain; and his son-in-law Billy Ennis.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, February 15, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home on Highway 50 in Garner, North Carolina. Following visitation, there will be words of prayer, a presentation of the flag, and the playing of Taps in honor of Michael’s military service.
Michael was a proud Vietnam veteran who truly lived life to the fullest. He loved deeply, laughed often, and left behind a legacy of love that will continue through the family he cherished so dearly.
