Melinda Hope Kendall, age 67, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on September 7th, 2026.
Originally from Garner, North Carolina, Melinda devoted much of her career to the State of North Carolina, ending at the North Carolina Museum of History, where she retired. She took great pride in her work and the people she encountered along the way.
Melinda fiercely loved her family and treasured the relationships that meant the most to her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit, and a strong, independent spirit. She was never afraid to stand up for the people she loved. Those who knew her will remember for her honesty, her strength, and the laughter she brought into their lives.
Melinda also had a special place in her heart for animals. There always seemed to be a cat or dog in her life that needed a home, and she willingly opened her heart and home to rescue animals throughout the years. Her compassion for animals reflected the generous heart she carried throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nannie Ruth Kendall and Richard "Buddy" Kendall Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Pamela Nelms and her husband, Mark; her niece, Kendall Langston and her husband, Dalton; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Melinda will be remembered for her fierce love, independent spirit, sharp sense of humor, compassion for animals, and the unmistakable presence she brought into the lives on those who knew and loved her. She will be missed not only for all she did, but for simply being Melinda.
Her family will received friends on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 11th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Falls Community Cemetery at 12165 Old Falls of Neuse Rd, Wake Forest, NC.
