Mary Ann Witek

Mary Ann Witek, age 82 of Fuquay-Varina, NC (formerly of Hobart, IN), passed away Tuesday, October 6th, 2026 in Garner, NC. She was born May 21st, 1944 in Hammond, IN to John and Bernice (Novak) Lukas, who preceded her in death.

Mary Ann was married to Edward Witek of Hobart, IN for 41 years, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen (Victor) Finke of Chesterton, IN; sons, Thomas Witek of Hobart, IN and David (Bill) Witek-Britt of Raleigh, NC; brother, John (Mira) Lukas of Crown Point, IN; brother, Jim (Jodie) Pokryfke of Rochelle, IL; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Ava Finke, Elizabeth (Wesley) Jackson, and Riley Britt; great-grandson, Jace Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert (Joan) Lukas and Gene (survived by Lynn) Lukas.

Mary Ann was a graduate of Calumet High School and Purdue University. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed cooking, knitting, ceramics, several womens' groups, and Purdue basketball. She was also an avid world traveler. Mary Ann started her career as an elementary school teacher at St. Mary's Catholic School in Griffith, IN. After raising her three children, she returned to the classroom, teaching high school for the Porter County School System for over 20 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, IN with Father Jon Plavcan officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN.
