Mary Margaret Shuttleworth

Mary Spencer Shuttleworth, a beloved resident of Garner, NC, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026. Born on August 6, 1939, in Miami, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Florence and William Thornbury. A proud graduate of Miami Jackson High School, Mary went on to build a long and dedicated career with S.A.S. Institute in Cary, NC, where she worked faithfully for over two decades.

Mary married Gilbert Edgar Spencer in April 1958, and the two shared more than five decades of life together until his passing in 2009. In March 2012, she found companionship again and married her second husband, Wes Shuttleworth, who survives her. She is also survived by her children-Michael Alan Spencer, Laurie Spencer Webster, and Dale Wayne Spencer-and two cherished grandchildren. Mary was a fierce defender of her children, offering them steadfast love and unwavering support in every choice they made.

The family is being served by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home on Highway 50 in Garner. A burial service will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park on Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m., followed by a luncheon in her honor. Attendees will be responsible for their own meal costs due to limited space.
