Mark Leroy Axtell

Mark Axtell, 79, of Apex passed away peacefully on 8/31/2026 at home.

He was born on 8/17/1947 in Pittsburgh, PA to Clair and Dorothy Axtell.

Mark was a devoted husband to Cathy Axtell for 39 years. He was a loving father to Scott Axtell and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He will be remembered for kindness and generosity. He especially enjoyed music and sports especially his Pittsburgh teams. Those who knew him will remember a gentle and kind heart.

He is survived by his wife Cathy Axtell, his son Scott Axtell and wife Brynne. A celebration of life will be held on September 20th at 3:30 pm at United Church in Apex.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Meals on Wheels of Wake County or Transitions Life Care.

He leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories that will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
