September 27, 1951 — July 26, 2025

Marilyn Eve Tarbox (née Garland), 73, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 27, 1951, in Brunswick, Maine, Marilyn lived a life rooted in love, family, and unwavering devotion to those closest to her.

Marilyn was the beloved wife of Paul Tarbox for 54 years and the devoted mother of three daughters: Marlo (Tarbox) & Nick Burke, Stacey (Tarbox) & Michael Hamilton, and Trisha (Tarbox) & Michael Roberge. Marilyn was described as "the best Nana ever," by her grandchildren: Shelby, Brock, Amanda, Kya, Fallon, Nelia, Aiden, Jordan & Emory. Her deep commitment to her family was evident in every aspect of her life. Marilyn also touched many lives as a foster mother. She created a home filled with love, stability, and compassion-a legacy that continues through the lives of her children and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She was born to Donald W. Garland and Marion Ruth Bamforth and grew up surrounded by a large and close-knit family. Marilyn shared strong bonds with her siblings throughout her life. She is survived by her brothers Donald Garland and Kenneth Garland. She was predeceased by her sisters Ann Menard and Hope Miner, as well as her brother Stanley Garland.

Marilyn's warmth extended beyond immediate family; she nurtured relationships that spanned generations and distances. Her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her, and she will be remembered for the strength of character and kindness she consistently showed.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
