Marie Smith

October 15, 1932 — June 30, 2026

Marie Smith

Marie Honeycutt Smith, age 93, entered her Heavenly home on June 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion to her family.

Born on October 25, 1932, in Johnston County, North Carolina, Marie was the daughter of the late Andrew Carl Honeycutt and Lida Bell Baker Honeycutt. She was a woman of enduring faith, quiet strength, and unwavering love-a life lived in service to God and the family she cherished so much.

If you knew Marie, you knew her heart. She never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel welcome and cared for. A sweet word, a listening ear, or a simple act of kindness, she truly loved others with grace and sincerity. Her fried chicken, chicken pastry, and the perfect southern biscuits may have blessed you over the years. She was a devoted mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She embraced those roles with her whole heart. The greatest joy was her family and she poured herself into loving and caring for them. Her vision may have been limited but that didn't stop her from using her phone to call and check on her loved ones. Over the years she worked hard, sacrificed often, and raised her children the very best she knew how with determination, compassion, and grace. She instilled in them the morals and values and always pointed them to the Lord.

Her influence will continue to be felt for generations through the lives of those she loved so deeply. Her relationship with the Lord was the foundation of her life. She found comfort and purpose in her faith and reflected Christ's love through her kindness, encouragement, and steadfast spirit. Those blessed to know Marie will remember her gentle nature and genuine care she showed to everyone she met. A special thank you to the fine people at BellaRose Nursing Home, especially Vanessa, Tonya, Rose, and Bobbi, any many more who cared for her so sweetly over the last few years.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Smith; son, Mark Carroll; parents, Andrew Carl and Lida Bell Baker Honeycutt; sisters, Letha, Vera, and Beatrice; brothers, Carl Jackson and C.G.; and other beloved family members who welcomed her home to Glory.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie McDowell (Mike), her son, Charlie Carroll Jr. (Mickey); and her daughter-in-law, Christine Carroll. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; incredibly special nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Though her family's hearts are broken, they take comfort in knowing she is safe in the arms of Jesus, reunited with those who have gone on before her, and is hearing the words, "well done, good and faithful servant."
