After attending Duke University, she started her career as a teller for Wachovia Bank and retired as Assistant Vice President with over 30 years of dedicated service. During this time, she was a friend to many co-workers and customers. It is there that she met her husband Carl and they were married September 3, 1954 and moved to Garner. The Garner Woman’s Club, The Alice Broughton book club and the Forest Hills Garden Club. She was an avid bridge player and played in many bridge clubs along with her husband over the years. Marie loved to read and work in her yard. She also loved learning new crafts to make or knit. In her spare time, she would visit friends who were sick or in nursing homes. She always tried to give back to others in some small way. Of her accomplishments Marie would tell you her greatest were her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful mom, grandmommy, and nana. She was extremely proud of them and loved to tell others about what they were doing. She was a Godly woman and mother who taught many life lessons about faith, loving her family, loving others, serving and working hard.
