Maria Isabel Rubio

Maria Isabel Rubio, 75, of Garner, NC, passed away on May 12, 2026.

Maria was born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico, a proud Ponceña who carried her roots with her wherever she went. She later lived in New Orleans, where she enjoyed the life and culture of the city, and in Miami before settling in Garner, North Carolina. For the past 20 years, she came to love the beauty and quiet, humble life of North Carolina.

She earned a degree in Chemistry from the Catholic University of Puerto Rico, an accomplishment that was ahead of her time, both culturally and generationally.

Maria was married to her husband, Luis Rubio, for 50 years, celebrating that milestone on December 25, 2025.

She loved Jesus and lived her life close to Him, staying active in the Catholic Church throughout her life. Her faith was steady and quiet, not for show. It showed in how she lived, through patience, sacrifice, and the way she cared for others.

She was quiet, strong, and full of love. Maria lived a life of sacrifice, often putting herself last without ever being asked. It was simply who she was. She gave of herself freely and consistently for her husband and children, without complaint and without needing recognition.

In her final months, she faced an aggressive illness with that same quiet strength. She did not complain. She surrendered to God's will and carried herself with peace, and even moments of joy, until the end.

She is survived by her husband, Luis Rubio; her six children, Adna, Miryam, Mabel, Manny, Juan, and Neysa; her 17 grandchildren-Nicholas, Thomas, Juan Jr., Christopher, Matthew, Daniel, Joshua, Oliver, Max, David, Caleb, Rebecca, Isabel, Jocelyn, Jordyn, Elena, and Emma; her brother, Samuel Olivieri; her sister, Margarita Olivieri; and her cousin, Felix Degoni, all of whom she loved deeply.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, May 18 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Mother of the Church in Garner, NC. Following cremation, inurnment at St. Raphael in Raleigh will take place later in the week.

Mom, thank you for showing us how to love without holding back, serve without being asked, and trust Jesus through every season.
