Mose Stocks

Lubie Moseley Stocks, Jr., best known simply as Mose, age 68, passed away after a short illness on November 18, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born on February 24, 1957, in Greenville, North Carolina, Mose lived a life filled with warmth, music, and unwavering devotion to his family and faith. Mose dedicated many years of his life to being a stay-at-home dad. He was an enthusiastic dance dad, band supporter, and always there for Palmer and Caroline while they were growing up. Mose was also a model son and son-in-law, always willing to do whatever his parents and in-laws needed at the drop of a hat.

Mose is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karin (a.k.a. Darlin'), his son Palmer, and his daughter Caroline. He also leaves behind his sister, Susan Stocks, and brother-in-law Bob Hellwig (Joanne), his in-laws Bill and Margaret Anne Smith, sisters-in-law Betsy (Mike) and Diana (Bill), as well as many beloved nephews and nieces. Welcoming him into eternal rest are his parents Lubie and Micki Stocks, along with his sister Dot Hellwig.

Mose was born and raised in and around Greenville, North Carolina, or the 51st state of East Carolina, as he loved to say. He attended East Carolina University, and then Atlantic Christian College (what's a Barton?), where he met his wife, Karin, as well as many lifelong friends. After college, he and Karin ultimately settled down in what he initially saw as the towering hills of Raleigh and Garner, North Carolina, where they started their family.

Of his many hobbies, golf and music were foremost, along with his lifelong devotion to his ECU Pirates. Mose swore he bled purple, and he truly lived loyal and bold. On the course, he and the ACC gang were notorious for their yearly visits to Atlantic Beach, where Mose was a terror to every tree in sight. When not on the course, he was never found far from one of his guitars, or at least from a way to listen to his favorite songs.

Mose was a faithful servant of the Lord, and heavily involved in his church. From his years in the Praise Band to his work with the youth in Sunday school, missions, and meetings, his passion and joy touched countless lives.

Mose leaves behind a legacy of laughter, music, and devotion. Though he will be deeply missed, we believe his impact on all of our lives will certainly be felt forevermore.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 22nd, 2025 at 4:00 PM at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1201 Maxwell Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603. Attendees are encouraged to wear purple. A period of visitation will follow the service at the church at 5:00 PM.
