Raleigh - Lillian Lemons Newton, 77, known to her family as Big Lil, loving Mother, sister, sister -in-law, aunt and friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 12, 2011. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 1987. The measure of the significance of Lillians life is best seen in the depth and breadth of the relationships with all she knew. The impact of her life will touch people for their lifetime. Lillian was a homemaker all the time, but also found time to work with Raleighs largest concession business, be a secretary in the NC State Legislature and finally retire from the Wake County Health Department. Lillian was a faithful member and servant in her Church, Longview United Methodist Church. Lillians family was the joy of her life and fellowship with them was her favorite past time. Any meal was an excuse to gather and even routine trips to Southern Seasons were an event. Big Lil is survived by her three children; Susan Burnette, her husband George and their two sons Little George and James, also known as Toad; Jamie, his wife Andrea and their daughters Whitney and Lauren, Laurens Husband Ben and Grandma Big Lils only great grandchild and a source of great joy in her last days, Peyton; Richard, his wife Elaine and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Emily. Her three surviving siblings and their spouses were her best friends; Hazel Lyon, Frank Lemons and his wife Dolly, Clarence and his wife Dawn. Big Lils in-laws were like brothers and sisters and all her nieces and nephews could count on her as a second Mom. The family wishes to thank Dr William Berry and the staff at Cancer Centers of North Carolina, the staff at Sunrise of North Hills and Hospice of Wake County who so lovingly cared for our Mother. You touched our lives with so much love and grace. You are part of our extended family!! Visitation will be held Thursday, April 14 from 6-8 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 15 at Providence Baptist Church.Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
