Larry Allen Jones, 81, of Garner, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025.
Born on July 7, 1943, in Athens, West Virginia, Larry graduated from Athens High School in 1961. He began his career with the West Virginia Highway Department before being drafted into the U.S. Army. Following basic training, he completed Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He was stationed in Germany as an artillery battery commander. In 1969, Larry was promoted to captain and deployed to Vietnam. Upon completing his tour of duty, Larry and his family settled in North Carolina, where he worked for 33 years as a project engineer for Conagra Foods.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Brenda Hill Jones, and was a devoted father to two daughters: Monica Kuznar of Angier, NC and Pamela Macon (William) of Clayton, NC. He was a proud Papa to six grandchildren: Cameron Macon Catalano (Joshua) of Fairbanks, Alaska; Meredith Kuznar Rogers (Luke) of Chester, Va., Mallory Macon Wells (Reagan) of Clayton, NC; and Kyndall, Sydney, and Sloane Macon of Clayton, NC. His legacy continues through five great-grandchildren: Paxtyn Catalano, Sterling Catalano, Ashtyn Wells, Charlie Rogers, and Dean Rogers. He is also survived by his sister, Kay White (Tom) of Princeton, WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Arthur Jones of Athens, WV; infant sister, Elizabeth Jones; sister Lucille Breedlove (Hoye) of Baltimore, MD; and brother, Arthur Jones Jr. (Rhonda) of Athens, WV.
Larry will be remembered for his deep faith, unwavering love for his wife and family, and his dedicated service to his country. A gifted craftsman, he spent countless hours in his shop building furniture, toy boxes, and shadow boxes each piece a labor of love. He never missed a recital, ball game, graduation, or grandparents' day. He taught his daughters and grandchildren life skills from changing a tire to assembling furniture- always with a smile and a toolbox in hand.
His Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC.
His Funeral Service will follow on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Montlawn Memorial Park - Veteran's Section following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, organizations that were close to Larry's Heart.
