Lacy Barksdale Slayton

Lacy Barksdale Slayton, of Garner, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026.

Lacy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend whose life was marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his community. A graduate of Elon University, he proudly served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy for five and a half years. During his naval career, he served aboard the aircraft carriers USS Constellation, USS Hancock, USS Coral Sea, and USS Midway, carrying the values of honor, integrity, and service throughout his life. Following his military service, Lacy built a successful career in Human Resources before pursuing his passion for helping others as a real estate agent, where he was known for his kindness, honesty, and genuine concern for those he served.

Above all else, Lacy cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Paulette Slayton; his daughters, Sandy Burns, Stephanie Britt Shepherd and her husband, John, and Valerie Britt Clinard and her husband, Kris. He was a proud grandfather to Tyler Butts, El Clinard, and Ethan Shepherd, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

Lacy was preceded in death by his father, Vann Robert Slayton; his mother, Martha Ellen Carmichael; his brothers, Nelson Lee Slayton, James Edward Slayton, and Vann Walter Slayton; his sister, Reba Wade; and his beloved son, Robert Tyler Slayton. Though he experienced great loss throughout his life, Lacy's strength, faith, and love for his family never wavered.

Those who knew Lacy will remember his steady presence, quiet strength, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He had a lifelong love of golf and treasured the time spent on the course, where he enjoyed the game as much as the fellowship and friendships it brought. He also loved spending time with his many friends and embraced every opportunity to travel, creating lasting memories and meaningful connections wherever he went. Whether through his military service, his professional life, the golf course, his travels, or the love he shared with family and friends, he left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and in the family he loved so deeply.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner.

A graveside service celebrating Lacy's life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Global Methodist Church in Garner. Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, as the service will be held outdoors.
