GARNER - Kelly Anne Lockamy Betters, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
She was born in Wayne County on March 17, 1943, the daughter of the late Burbank and Ruth Lockamy. Raised in Sampson County, she graduated from Hobbton High School in Newton Grove and went on to attend Miller-Motte Business School in Wilmington. Following her studies, Kelly went to work with the State of North Carolina where she served over 40 years, retiring from the NC Forensic Tests for Alcohol branch. In recognition of her contribution to this state, Kelly was a recipient of North Carolina's highest civilian honor, The Order of the Longleaf Pine.
Of all her pastimes, Kelly's favorite was her family. She was "Team Mom" for all three of her sons when they played football with the Garner Eagles. A woman of faith, she was active in several churches throughout her life that included Keener Methodist Church, Garner Methodist Church, and Holland's Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Kelly was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Betters, Jr. whom she married in 1967.
She is survived by her sons, William E. Betters, III of Garner, Thomas A. Betters and wife, Sara of Portland, OR, R. Patrick Betters and wife, Robin of Willow Spring; grandchildren, Nic Betters, Livvy Betters, and Banks Betters; brother, Dr. Thomas Lockamy of Goldsboro; her canine companion, Zoe; and a host of extended family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Montlawn Memorial Park (2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603).
Flowers are welcome and may be sent to Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Garner (1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529).
