Josephine Greene Sammons, age 79, of Garner, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
Born on February 22, 1947, in Bakersville, Mitchell County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Arbie Tyson Greene and Texie Buchanan Greene. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Dean Greene.
Known to family and friends as "Jo," she worked as a beautician in Raleigh near NCSU for 47 years. One of her favorite clients was Kay Yow, former head coach of the NCSU Women's Basketball Team. Jo enjoyed crocheting and creating handmade Christmas ornaments and gifts for others. She found great joy in giving and sharing her talents with family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 58½ years, Robert Sammons; daughters, Kimberly Sammons Thompson and husband, Scott, of Garner, and Sharon Sammons Fields and husband, Wayne, of Smithfield; grandsons, Christopher Thompson of Garner; Jonathan Thompson and wife, Grace, of Leesburg, Virginia, along with their daughter, Addison, and a second child expected in November; James Clark and wife, Cori, of Bayse, Virginia; and Samuel Clark of Mount Jackson, Virginia.
She is also survived by her siblings: Reva Willis of Bakersville; Cora Hildebran and husband, John, of Connelly Springs; Addie Greene and wife, Joyce, of Bakersville; Lola Fletcher and husband, Wayne, of Valdese; and Arthur Greene and wife, Doris, of Bakersville; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Josephine's life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Hospice Amedisys of Raleigh for the compassionate care provided to Josephine during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend time with your loved ones and cherish the precious moments you share together.
