Joseph Clark Pleasants

Joeseph Clark Pleasants, age 81, passed from this life early afternoon of June 30th, 2026 in his home on Oak Island, NC. Born on June 2, 1945, in Durham, North Carolina, Joe was the son of the late George William and Mary Scott Jones Pleasants of Garner, NC. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps and was a dedicated husband and father, and grandfather.

On May 9th, 1964, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Hatcher Pleasants. Joe loved his wife dearly and cherished his time with his boys and grandchildren. Carolyn was his world and together they shared 62 years of marriage. They lived most of their lives in Garner, NC raising their two sons, then moved to Oak Island, NC in 2022.

Joe is survived by his two sons, Jody Pleasants (Debbie) of Benson, NC, and Greg Pleasants (Karen) of Raleigh, NC; his grandchildren Kasey Breeden(Jason) of Benson, NC, Jacob Pleasants (Katie) of Huntersville, NC; Brandon Pleasants of Clayton, NC, Colton Pleasants of Raleigh, NC and Lucas Pleasants of Raleigh, NC; and cherished great grandson Jason Lane (Kasey and Jason). He is also survived by his sister Scottie Hogg (Tom) of Columbus, NC, and brothers Bill Pleasants (Clarajo) of Jamestown, NC, Jim Pleasants (Marcia) of Winterville, NC, Phillip Pleasants (Hilda) of Lynn, NC; along with many nieces and nephews, devoted neighbors and friends.

Joe was dedicated to his family and studying and following Christ. He spent many years reading, gardening, spending time on the beach and making BBQ. He called his grandchildren regularly and spent as much time with them as he could.

A private celebration of life will be held with the family.
