John Arthur Shanton, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, formerly of Hillsboro, Virginia, passed away on July 1, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born and raised with a love for the outdoors, John enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved raising his four boys on his farm. He was a man of quiet strength, deep faith in Jesus Christ, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
John graduated from Fairfax High School and served as a member of the Army Reserves. He volunteered with the Rescue Squad and Fire Departments in Vienna and Herndon, Virginia, and worked for over 40 years at the U.S. Geological Survey, serving in the Publications Division, Water Resources Division, and National Mapping Division.
He was active in his church and was known for his humble service and generous heart. John was a member of Hamilton Baptist Church in Virginia before moving to North Carolina, where he and his wife joined Baptist Grove Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lindabelle, and their four sons: Johnny, Jim, David, and Mike. He also leaves behind their wives, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him endless joy and pride.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 9th, at 1:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 300 E. McIver Street, Angier, North Carolina 27501. John will be laid to rest after the service at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, 2712 Oak Grove Church Road, Angier, North Carolina 27501.
His memory will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
