John Oladapo Lawoyin

John Oladapo Lawoyin 92, of Fuquay Varina, NC passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was born in Abeokuta Nigeria on July 23, 1933, the third of eight children born to Rev. James and Susanna Adetoun Lawoyin. John Oladapo Lawoyin had his primary education at Ijaye Baptist Day School Abeokuta and his secondary education at Baptist Boys High School (BBHS) Oke Egunya Owu ,Abeokuta, Nigeria. He had his higher education at Baptist College, Iwo, Nigeria after which he got a federal government scholarship to Loughborough College, Lester, England to study Librarianship. Upon completing his education in England, he proceeded to Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio where he obtained his Master’s in Library Science and Masters in English. He returned to the University of Lagos Nigeria to continue his work and passion as a teacher and Librarian. John Oladapo Lawoyin was an ardent reader and sports man. He loved playing tennis, swimming and playing billiards.

John Oladapo Lawoyin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Oyeronke Alake Lawoyin, his children: Omobola (Ben)Madugu , Susan Lawoyin, Oladele (Coreen)Lawoyin, his grandchildren: Oluwatoni Madugu, Ayomide Madugu, Oluwatobi Isawumi, David Madugu, Kitan Isawumi, Joshua Lawoyin, Nathaniel Lawoyin, Nevanna Lawoyin and his sister Olatundun Akinleye.

Along with his parents, John Oladapo Lawoyin was preceded in death by his siblings, Olufunmilayo Alawode, Olanrewaju Ogundiran, Biola Ogunleye, Rev. Segun Lawoyin, Ajibola Ogunrinde, Olakunle Lawoyin.

Funeral service and burial will be held privately for the family and close friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date for other family and friends.
