John Franzen, Jr.

John 'Jack' Franzen, 91, currently residing in Angier, NC passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side to say goodbye on December 25th, 2025.

John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Judith Shissler Franzen, his daughter Arline Sue Mott and her husband John Mott, his grandchildren Jeremy Mott and his wife Apryl, Brandon Mott and his wife Amy, and his great grandchildren Emma and Caleb Mott. He also leaves behind his 2 brothers, Larry and Karl Franzen, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He grew up in California learning a variety of skills from his father and causing mischief with cousins and friends. Eventually they moved to Lombard, IL where he continued to help his father with their business until he enlisted in the Army. After leaving the Army he worked a long career at Sears before enjoying an early retirement to travel the country in an RV for 14 years. They later settled in Mountain Home, Arkansas to be near family.

On September 1st, 1956 he married the love of his life, Judith Shissler. Several years later they had their only daughter, Arline Sue.

John was known for his large personality, love of story telling, and supporting his family. He was an avid outdoorsmen that never missed the start of hunting season, loved fishing, and golfing. While not being a stranger to hard work you did not have to twist his arm too hard to convince him to sneak in 18 holes at the nearest golf course. Then as the sun went down you could frequently find him sitting at a table playing cards and board games while regaling his audience with stories.

A celebration of life will be held at Providence Presbyterian Church, 14664 NC 210 Highway Angier, NC at 11am on January 17th followed by a meal.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions are given to Providence Presbyterian Church Pre-School 14664 NC 210 Highway Angier, NC 27501.
