Jim Byrd, 58, passed away on December 18, 2025. He was born in Forsyth County, North Carolina, on February 5, 1967, and was the beloved son of the late James Eugene Byrd, Sr. and Brenda Loray Simmons.
A native of Raleigh, Jim was well known in the community as a hardworking and accomplished professional known for his honesty, skill, and strong work ethic. In 1997, he founded his own automotive business, Byrd's Auto Service, which went on to bring him immense pride.
A devoted family man, Jim was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. On October 3, 1987, he married the love of his life and best friend, Mary Byrd, spending 38 memorable years together. The thing he was most fond of was his family, his love and commitment to them was something to admire and was reflected in all that he did. He will be missed greatly and will forever be remembered by his family and friends as a man of great determination and strength.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his daughter, Allyson Byrd Ennis; and grandson, Trenten Lockamon, all of whom he loved very dearly.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary Bagwell Byrd; sons, James Arlen Byrd (Sarah), and Zachery Eugene Byrd (Nikki); sister, Lisa Michelle Doby; and grandchildren, Cody Canter, Katelyn Byrd, Dallas Canter, Kinsley Byrd, Ellynn Byrd, and Kinsley Bailey.
Jim's legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the many lives he touched through his kindness and generosity.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, 6020 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27610. The family will receive friends for a period of visitation in the church fellowship hall immediately following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
