Jerry Glenn Hamrick, 84, of Garner, NC, passed away at home surrounded by his family, Saturday, December 13, 2025, after a courageous battle with CMML. He was born March 28,1941, in Banner Elk, NC, to Fred Carroll Hamrick and Jessie Katherine Vinson Hamrick. Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Lees McRae Junior College and a 1963 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Mathematics. He went into Army basic training in Fort Benning, GA for six months and was in the Army National Guard for six years. He was the Workers Compensation Manager for the North Carolina Rate Bureau for 38 years and a devout member of Aversboro Road Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Katherine from Franklin, North Carolina. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Laura Ann Lassiter Hamrick, formerly of Troy, NC, his children Amy Whitley of Knightdale, NC; Jay Hamrick and wife Hemphill of Greenville, NC;
Mary Baber and husband Robert of Apex, NC, his grandchildren, Amber Anderson and husband Brian of Wilmington, NC; Rachel Hamrick of Greenville, NC; Tripp and Carter Jackson of Pfafftown, NC; and Josh and Jake Baber of Cary, NC. He is also survived by his brothers Fred (Bud) Hamrick, Jr., of Meridianville, AL; David Hamrick of Garner, NC; and Charles Hamrick of Chapel Hill, NC.
He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time on the beach. Time with his close friends was important to him. He played bridge and tennis regularly and spoke frequently of those close relationships. Jerry and Laura spent many Tuesday evenings with a wonderful fellowship of friends having dinner. His church family was also a crucial part of his life and his faith helped him tremendously through some difficult times. He was a strong family man. He and his brothers are master craftsmen and woodworkers. Along with their children, they would often gather to build a sunroom, garage, deck, or fence. This time spent together was productive in so many ways. It also taught their children so many invaluable lessons. He loved his grandchildren and spending quality time with each one separately or all of them together. He was generous and the true definition of a gentleman.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Jeffrey Scholar, Pastor of Aversboro Road Baptist Church, Dr. Joshua Zeidner, Dr. Julia Rauch, and their teams with UNC Oncology in Chapel Hill and Garner. They would also like to thank Heartland Hospice for their compassion and care for Jerry and his family during this trying and difficult time.
The family will receive family and friends, Monday, December 22, 2025 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Bryan Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529.
