Janice Marilyn White Newnham, 80, of Glenville, and formerly from Schenectady, passed away on May 18, 2023 of Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the daughter of the late Stanley White and Gertrude (Downs) White and was born on August 4, 1942, in Lake Placid. She was raised in Bolton Landing and then Voorheesville. On October 4, 1959, Jan met the love of her life, Fred, in Albany, when they were first year students at Albany Medical Center School of Nursing and Siena College. Jan began her career in nursing at Albany Medical Center. After years of hospital nursing, Jan worked in private duty nursing and then finished her career as a school nurse in the Schenectady Public School System where she cared for and advocated for countless numbers of students. Upon retirement, Jan enjoyed time spent with her friends and family. After the birth of her grandchildren, she was a devoted Nana and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Jan was predeceased by her loving husband Fred of nearly 61 years. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Newnham; son and wife, Rick and Mary Newnham; her daughter and husband, Courtney and Jerry Radford, and her adored grandchildren, Joshua and Laura Radford. Also, she is survived by brother Jerry White and wife Helen, brother Dick White and wife Amy, brother Ray White and wife Carol, brother Ron White, and brother-in-law Tom Baker. She was predeceased by her brother Philip White and sister Beverly Baker. Janice leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews: Belinda White, Phil White, Thomas Baker Jr, Valerie Perkins, Glenda Wickwire, Scott White, Korrin White, Candace White, Rachel Davis, Abby Bontron, Hannah Clark, Amy Hooker, Sam White, Becky Haught, Jared White, Justin White, and Jessica Wallace. She was predeceased by her nieces Pamela Spawn and Renita Baker and nephew Jason White. Furthermore, Janice is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Judy Newnham as well as nieces Shelly Newnham Hayward, Barbara Newnham Kiser, and Deborah Newnham Hoyle and nephew George Newnham Jr. Also, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald and Elaine Newnham and their son Donald Newnham Jr.
Janice will be remembered for spending her life caring for others. Even when she was ill and unable to take care of herself, she continued to try to take care of those around her. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a woman of faith who had a strong and lasting relationship with Jesus Christ. We, therefore, know this occasion is not about “goodbye,” but instead, “see you later.” Jan, Mom, and Nana, LUBB - until we meet again!
There will be a celebration of life open house for Jan and Fred (who died on January 17, 2023) on June 24th at Ravenswood Pub in Clifton Park from 6-9pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, or Transitions Lifecare which provided Janice with wonderful and compassionate end of life care. (transitionslifecare.org/donate)
