James Earl Tyndall passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on December 10, 2025, at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh, NC. He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Tyndall (Kevin Shanahan) of Raleigh, NC; brother-n-law, Billy Messer of Coats, NC; sister-n-law, Louise Messer Rossman (Tom Osborne) of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
James was born on September 2, 1933, to James Attie Tyndall and Lannie Wood Tyndall in the township of Averasboro, which is now Dunn, NC. After graduating from high school James managed the local McCrory's 5-10-25¢ store, which is where he first met the love of his life, Hilda Messer. He went on to serve for 2 years in the Army as a supply sergeant before returning to Dunn and eloping with Hilda on January 1, 1957.
James continued to manage retail stores until he accepted a job with Mallinckrodt Chemical in 1967. He worked his way up from 3rd shift Boiler Operator to the Health, Safety & Utility Supervisor, and when Mallinckrodt chose to establish their own hydrogen production plant, Jim was the man for the job until he retired in 1995.
James had a strong faith and the greatest love for family and friends. He and Hilda enjoyed music, camping, family gatherings, and just having fun together. James was always THE biggest kid in the room, and there are 3 generations who have all rubbed Uncle Earl's head for luck! Most of all, James loved helping others any way he could. In so many ways he has been there for all of us, and we will carry him in our hearts forever.
