RALEIGH - James J. Tannery of Raleigh, NC was born on February 15, 1956 and went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2022 after a period of increasingly declining health. James was the youngest of 4 children, all boys known as "the 4 J's". He attended Broughton High School in downtown Raleigh and until shortly before his passing worked for many years at NSI Lab Solutions, in Raleigh, NC as a Production Technician. James always had a passion for music with his earlier years spent enjoying bands such as The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd and Kiss. He also loved Gospel music and Bluegrass especially Doc Watson and Merle Watson, attending their concerts and the annual "MerleFest" music festival many times. James loved spending time with his brothers especially during the spring and fall NASCAR races in Charlotte. Although there was an abundance of teasing, harassing and brotherly foolishness, there was a strong bond of love between the brothers. James was a strong believer in God and shared his testimony with others as often as he could. He enjoyed being a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Raleigh and being among a family of believers. James was a part of the annual Live Nativity drive through community outreach event, dressing in period costume as a Bethlehem townsperson. James is predeceased by his parents John Spence Tannery, Sr. and LouNell Jordan Tannery as well as his brother Joseph Alfred Tannery. He is survived by his brother John S. Tannery, Jr. and wife Dianne of Mt. Holly, NC; sister-in-law Susan R. Tannery of N. Chesterfield, VA.; and brother Jerold C. Tannery and wife Brenda of Garner, NC. James is also survived by his many nieces and nephews whom he loved so much as they did him. They are Jeff Rollins and wife Jody of Calabash, NC; Brian Tannery of Mt. Holly, NC; Lisa Tannery of Charlotte, NC; Joe Tannery and wife Melissa of Midlothian, VA; Kimberly Lewter and husband Kevin of Benson, NC; Kelly Mitchell and husband Michael of Swansboro, NC; and Kaila Tannery of Greensboro, NC. Visitation and funeral will be on Monday, July 25 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at 10:00 am and 11:00 am, respectively. After the funeral service, James will be laid to rest at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in downtown Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James may be made to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at 3000 East Garner Road in Raleigh, NC. A service of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh.
