James Abbate

James Matthew Abbate, 59, of Columbia, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Born July 1, 1966, he was the son of the late William Victor Abbate Sr and Olivia Stephenson Abbate. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his sister, Frances Abbate Costello.

James is survived by his wife, Kathrine "Kit" Abbate, his son, William "Billy" Victor Abbate III, and daughter, Sabrina Marie Abbate; his sister, Susan Abbate Coats; brother, William Victor Abbate Jr. and wife Toi Abbate; mother-in-law Nora Goldstein; sister-in-law Joanne Brazinski (Michael) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a best friend to many, loving husband and a wonderful father. Family always came first and those who knew and loved him knew he would always be there if you needed him.

The impact he had on the lives he touched is too much to put into words. He will be missed greatly and remembered with love. He lived his grandfather's mantra of "the life you live is the lesson you teach" with everything he did.

A wake will be held on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner, NC. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, July 17th, 2025, at St Mary's Church in Garner from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., with burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
