J. C. Knowles

Born in Duplin County, NC on June 28, 1928, he was the son of Charles J. Knowles and Callie Register Knowles. He grew up in Oxford Orphanage (now the Masonic Home for Children). J. C. married is sweetheart, Dollie Mae Smith in 1954 on the "Bride and Groom TV Show". He served his country as a Merchant Marine during World War II. He spent the longest part of his career as an auctioneer. J.C. loved history and was an expert in Raleigh and North Carolina history and was an author of several publications. He was very proud of his community of Apex and became the Apex Ambassador.

Surviving are his two daughters, Sarah Welsh and husband Greg and Janet Harrell and husband Tim; his three grandsons, Scott Welsh, Taylor Welsh and wife Caitlin and Parker Harrell.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. Interment will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, North Carolina 27565.
