Hurshel Strickland

November 8, 1931 — June 4, 2025

Hurshel Gray Strickland, formerly of Raleigh, departed this life and joined his Lord and Savior on June 4th, 2025. Hurshel was born on November 8, 1931, and was the son of the late Walter and Ida Strickland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Strickland, of 59 years, three sisters, and one brother.

Hurshel was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather ("old papa"), brother, uncle, and friend to all. Hurshel loved his family, camping, and riding his golf cart.

Hurshel is survived by his children; Eddie Cooke and wife Sandy, Tim Strickland and wife Tammy, John Strickland and wife Wanda, Teresa Thompkins and husband Donnie, Dana Strickland and wife Karen. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for a period of visitation from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7th, 2025, at Ebenezer Global Methodist Church (6020 Rock Quarry Rd #210, Raleigh, NC 27610) prior to the celebration of life service in the sanctuary at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to Ebenezer Global Methodist Church in Raleigh or to Hospice of Johnston County.

Many thanks to Meadowview Assisted Living Community, especially those who loved him more than people will ever know. Also, many thanks to Hospice of Johnston County, especially those who loved and cared for him in his last few days.
