It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria Jean Sabo Silber, age 81, on Friday, September 19, after an extended battle with cancer. She was a woman of strong Catholic faith and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who deeply loved her family and community and remained dedicated to them till the end.
Throughout her life Gloria was known for her nurturing spirit and unshakable strength. As a mother she gave selflessly of herself to ensure her children’s well-being, offering them love, wisdom and unwavering support. As a grandmother her legacy of love continued to grow through her grandchildren, who will always remember her gentle guidance, tender affection and laughter-filled moments.
Gloria was born on March 27, 1944 to Andrew and Ellen Moberg Sabo in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. One of Gloria’s childhood memories was that of her father covering her with his coat while she was sleeping. When she awoke in the morning with his coat over her she knew she would find a piece of candy or a piece of fruit in the pocket. It was a beautiful start to her day!
Gloria also talked about her time in an all-girl drum and bugle corps as a teenager. She enjoyed marching and performing.
In her battle with cancer Gloria displayed the same courage and resilience that defined her life. She faced every challenge with grace, never allowing her illness to overshadow the love she so freely gave to those around her. Her faith was her rock, and she found peace in knowing that her family would carry her memory forward.
Though Gloria may no longer be with us in body, her spirit and legacy will live on through her family, her faith and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Gloria leaves behind a loving husband, Dr. Robert Silber of the home. She is survived by her son, David Jay and wife Allison, daughter Joanne Gainey and husband Jonathan, daughter Susan Faircloth and husband Resson, all of Erwin, and stepdaughter Olivia Ashley and husband Steve of Cary. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Joey Jay, Andrea Bezgela (Chris), Bridgette Lucas, Brian Harper, Kelly Harper, Kyle Harper (Madison), Allison Tunnel (Alex), Sarah Lee (Spencer), Trey Faircloth, and Benjamin Ashley and eight great-grandchildren: Jaiden, Keinzley, Rowen, Grey, Aiden, Gabrielle, Scarlett, and Rosaleigh.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Ellen Moberg Sabo, sister Elizabeth Sabo Baidy and brother Andrew Sabo, Jr. and her grandchildren Matthew Gainey and Madison Harper.
